Spatial variability and post-depositional diffusion of stable isotopes in high accumulation regions of East Antarctica

Stable isotopes of Antarcticice cores are used extensively in reconstructing the past climate. Variations snow accumulation patterns and post-depositional processes such as changes isotope ratios due to diffusion may complicate these records. We analyzed spatio-temporal variations accumulation, stable isotopic composition, factors controlling their distribution along two transects Dronning Maud Land (DML) Princess Elizabeth (PEL) regions East Antarctica. The δ 18 O δD dominantly influenced by DML region temperature PEL region. To evaluate extent records, record an ice core (IND-33) drilled after 5 years close transect was compared with A quantitative comparison records that revealed signal attenuation ranging between 55 70%. Using a firn model, we estimated length 6 cm IND-33 over years. Our study while exists even high sites coastal Antarctica, it does not significantly impact dating paleoclimatic interpretation unlike low areas.
